A Half Dozen Nightmares on Monday

Sunose

1.
In Maine, Arthur James Ashcroft sleeps. He dreams a dream of an infinite number of deaths. Each time Arthur awakes, screaming and kicking (his entire body covered in sweat and tears), he is greeted with a death more brutal than the last.

2.
In Birmingham, Hank Holtz sleeps. He dreams a dream of being cocooned alive. Hank is blind, deaf, mute, and paralyzed. As he lays still in the darkness, he feels the slow itching transformations of his body as it morphs into something large and insectoid.

3.
In Chengdu, Qinglei Xu sleeps. She dreams a dream of a monster beside her bed. The monster is large and silent, and awaits for her to wake. When she opens her eyes, it pounces onto her face, engulfing her with its mouth and suckling tendrils.

4.
In Mexico City, Miguel Ortiz de Domínguez sleeps. He dreams a dream of losing his son. Lost in a nondescript meat grinding factory, standing on a conveyor belt that stretches the room, Miguel is surrounded by a thousand replicas of his son without their eyes. In the distance, his unseen son cries out for him as the line moves towards the violent processing machine at the end.

5.
In Paris, René Perrault sleeps. He dreams a dream of being an immortal. He sees the formation of the rivers and mountains, and the arrival of the first sailing ships. By this century, weary from time, he is in desperation for death, and spends every day attempting suicide, but to no avail.

6.
In Canberra, Beth Streeton sleeps. She dreams a dream of reality in its fullest. She sees the wars and hunger and disease. She hears the crying and pleading and gunshots. She feels the first wave of radiation as the nuclear projectiles are activated and launched. In her bed, Beth cries for the passing of humanity.

Let’s stretch it out and…ohh…that feels sooo good now

I’ve been surprisingly busy ever since becoming unemployed two weeks ago. Mind you, it’s the good kinda busy, where time flies without you noticing. You know, when you’re doing the stuff you love. Anyhow, today was more or less a breather day for myself, so I thought I’ll finally post up the whole “On the Other Side of Midnight” graphic series, complete with front cover. Do check out the collated plates (including the final one) below, since the serialized story was essentially structured to be read in a single sitting. Plus got epilogue some more lor (So pro right?).

I’ll probably be working on another graphic project for The Plankton Society soon enough, as well as a collaborative effort outside of this blog, but we’ll have to see how the latter deal falls through in time to come. For now, I’m occupied with beefing up my design portfolio, hanging out with friends, and reading comic books. Yup. Sure looks like I’m gonna be damn busy for awhile. You know, the good kinda busy. Wheeeeeeeee~

Sometimes we walk alone, Sometimes we walk together

Dear Mr. President

Like you, we all face our baptisms of fire in our own way. The road is always long and far-reaching – sometimes, this isn’t a bad thing. And for those of us who’re lucky enough to find a companion along the way – well, sometimes, that’s the best thing.

Congratulations on your first 100 days. Now. Get back to work. There’s still more to be done. Much more.

Sincerely,
Carrick

Hola guys!

Here at theplanktonsociety, we’ve been in a sorta weird melting frenzy of euphoric happiness for the past few days. We’re finally done with our finals! Hurrah~

Apart from the occasional “I can’t fucking believe it’s fucking finally over” celebratory mutterings, we’ve gently eased ourselves back on the road in terms of overall busy-ness. That’s a slew of design projects we’ll be undertaking, not to mention a revamp of our current portfolio. We’re back on the treadmill and randomized joggings around the neighbourhood now that we’ve recovered from that horrendous 4 month long flu-fever-sorethroat fuck-asease that’d plagued us throughout the thesis writing period. And we’ll be planning for our upcoming grad trip to Japan as well (that’s if this H1N1 thing gets blown away by the big bad wolf in time).

In any case, we’re currently booking our outing dates with friends, so if you’re in the vicinity of let’s-go-find-Carrick-and-have-a-smashing-time, do holler back yar?

Much awesome love,
- Carrick-san
