Conjuring the Wayward Action Figure of the Past

Posted in The Life by carrick on May 28, 2007

Hello nostalgia, how are you? It’s been awhile since we last met, but I swore I saw you a mile away. What have I been up to you say? I’ve been busy, as always. I’ve been learning rudimentary Japanese, writing unpublished short stories, and researching on the Democratic party’s utter lack of commitment to Iraq (besides this, I think Al Gore will win the next election, with his ‘Heroes-ish’ proclamation to save the former candidate, save the world). Also, I’ve apparently won the CNN Future Summit Challenge with my digital painting, guaranteeing me a Nintendo Wii (which induced a 5 hour headache last night), 5 days in lovely Hong Kong (which induced a hapless amount of joyous laughter from my parents), and of course, bragging rights (which induced me uploading pics of me and CNN anchor Kristie Lu Stout here).

What else has happened I hear you ask? Oh dear nostalgia, you flatter me with your ever probing questions. Nevertheless, I will indulge thee with more visions of my half-witted reality. I’m an uncle! The boy’s a fine specimen of my brother and his wife, and I dare say, I’ve taken quite a liking to the young child. And he apparently loves the snug warmness of a beanie, just like his uncle! Ah, beanies. What would we do without them eh?

I’m also due for Seattle this week. Oh yes nostalgia, I’m going back. I’ll be traveling the West Coast this time you see, and it’ll be much warmer this time around. I will be meeting with friends, both old and new, and oh, it would be so lovely indeed. What can I say nostalgia? I’ve missed you so much, and it has been a great time catching up with old times. Shall we go for coffee sometime? Life’s always better in retrospect eh?

Feist – 1 2 3 4

We’ve enjoyed the music of Feist ever since she teamed up with the Kings of Convenience on their “Riot On An Empty Street” album, but it’s the festooned videos of “1 2 3 4” and “My Man Moon” that has recently sent those guzzling shivers down our mortal spines. Directed by the always original Patrick Daughters, these one-take wonders drive us to our atomic perish of “fuck that’s good shit” in terms of videography and Broadway dance routines. Why yes, let’s dress up in a bungled mess of rainbow colors and prance around abandoned dance halls and airport terminal strips – what a brilliant, brilliant resolve!
